Head of EUMM meets with Prime Minister of Georgia

10.03.2023
Today, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Dimitrios Karabalis, met with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili.

After introducing himself as the new Head of EUMM, Mr. Karabalis briefed about the security situation along the Administrative Boundary Lines. He particularly highlighted the concrete challenges that the conflict-affected population continues to face, especially when it comes to freedom of movement. In this regard, Head of Mission Karabalis explained that during the last meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Ergneti, EUMM, together with the OSCE, has advocated for the lifting of freedom of movement restrictions along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with South Ossetia during the upcoming Easter holiday season. The Head of Mission also used the opportunity to highlight the importance of the Mission-managed Hotline and the Ergneti IPRM as the tools that contribute to stability and confidence building.

Prime Minister Garibashvili thanked the Mission for its contributions to stability in Georgia and the wider region, as the only international monitoring presence on the ground. He expressed his support for the full implementation of the Mission’s mandate throughout the territory of Georgia.
